Who we are

At StopForumSpam, we are committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of our visitors to our web site. In particular, we want you to know that innocent is not in the business of selling, renting or trading email lists with other companies and businesses for marketing purposes. We just don’t do that sort of thing. But just in case you don’t believe us, in this Privacy Policy, we’ve provided lots of detailed information on when and why we collect your personal information, how we use it, the limited conditions under which we may disclose it to others (only when required by law) and how we keep it secure.

Types of data we collect

Personal Data

During the registration phase at StopForumSpam, we ask for a username (alias or real name, we enforce neither), an email address in order to verify your account (and to provide password reset and user validation when required). We record the IP address that you registered from, and the IP address that you last authenticated from.

Website Cookies

StopForumSpam utilises two domains, those being

  • stopforumspam.com
  • stopforumspam.org

As stopforumspam.org does not utilise any cookie features, the scope of cookies will be limited stop stopforumspam.com, as referred to as StopForumSpam

Like most websites StopForumSpam use cookies to store information. Cookies are small data files which are placed on your computer or other devices (such as smart ‘phones or ‘tablets’) as you browse this website. They are used to ‘remember’ when your computer or device accesses our websites. Cookies are essential only when you wish to log into services that anonymous access to do provide. You can disable StopForumSpam cookie access but certain services will not be available.

Cookies set by StopForumSpam are used for the following purpose

  • Authentication - To ensure you can login and use personalised services, until you log out or clear cookies.
  • Security - In the event of our security system detecting hostile traffic, a cookie will used to test that your browser/client complies with required security profiles.

Website Log Data

Normal web server activity will generate visitor log files. These log files may include personal data in the form of a single line, containing an IP address, the URI requested, and any parameters passed to the URI.

Log files are stored for 5 days, and used only for site diagnostics. No log files are shared with any other parties. Once deleted, log files are not recoverable.

If during the operation of API access, you wish that no data is logged, then you must change your request from a GET method to a POST method, as described at https://www.stopforumspam.com/usage

POST method will log the request but will not log the contents of the request. If you wish your request to remain within a European Union boundary, please ensure that you query europe.stopforumspam.org

How we protect your data

StopForumSpam is committed to protecting your personal data, and we undertake the following processes to ensure it remains secure

  • Regular security reviews of code and network access
  • ecurity gateways that actively screen for hostile traffic, denying access if required
  • Securing network access to systems via firewalls and restricted Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)
  • Data is encrypted and hashed where possible

Google Analytics

When someone visits www.stopforumspam.com we use a third party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make, and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website.

Content Delivery Networks

As some parts of the website are made available via high speed caching content providers, they make set a cookie in order to provide the fastest possible access to content required to generate the StopForumSpam website. These cookies are not available to us, nor are we able to control this behaviour.

Email Contact

As part of the registration process for SFS, we may collect some personal information based on the information you provide to us. We use that information for a couple of reasons: to provide you with the website/forum access, and services that you registered to obtain. We may use this to contact you if we need to obtain or provide additional information; to check our records are right and to inform you of critical issues with our service. Under no circumstances will we ever rent, sell, lease or otherwise disclose any information with any other party.

As we cannot verify registrations without an email address, we cannot provide any personalised services without one. You have the right to not provide an email address

Third Parties

We do not share any of our user’s personal data, actual or anonymised, with any other party.

Access to your personal information.

Our users are entitled to view, amend, or delete the personal information that we hold. Email your request to our data protection officer at dataprotectionofficer@stopforumspam.com

In the event of a data breach, you will be notified once an initial investigation has been completed. This does not affect any statutory rights.

Personal data that cannot be removed without impacting the operation of StopForumSpam will be anonymized to such a way as to retain website operations and remove as much personal information as possible.

Existing site data backups that contain removed/anonymised data, will not be removed, but will be flagged as requiring data removal processing, in the event that a database restore is required.

Changes to this Privacy Notice

This data protection policy may change from time to time, and notification of any change will be via email.
